Açaí, the superfruit of the Amazon 

You've likely heard people talking about it, seen them taking pictures of it, or enjoyed a bowl of it yourself—açaí is popping up everywhere. It's no surprise, this superfruit of the Amazon has a lot to offer when it comes to nutrition and flavor!

What is açaí?

Açaí is a "superfruit" that resembles a blueberry and is often referred to as a berry, but this fruit actually isn't a berry at all. It's a drupe, a fleshy fruit with a single seed—more closely related to peaches and olives than berries. The round, berry-like fruit hangs from drape-like branches and ripens to black or purple in color.

Where does açaí grow?

Açaí is the fruit of the Eutrpe Oleracea palm, which is native to Brazil, Peru, Trinidad, and several other nations. These trees are commonly found in swamps and floodplains regions. Açaí is harvested twice a year.
