I'm a convert

I've been making my own vanilla extract for over a decade and used to buy my beans based on reviews at a Infamous Global seller. Was never sure what I would get. Then I found this company! The beans were beautiful! Fragrant, moist but not too moist, easy to cut open to expose the seeds and each Bean was six to seven inches long. I'm a happy extract maker! 💝💃🥳

Where to Buy Vanilla beans from Comoros

When it comes to vanilla there is perhaps one name that is the most famous of all, bourbon vanilla.  While this term for vanilla beans once referred solely to vanilla grown on the island of La Rèunion, now it is a name associated with vanilla from Madagascar, Comoros, La Rèunion and many other areas that grow vanilla planifolia.

Vanille noire des Comoros

Black vanilla from Comoros island for baking and pastries. You will not find any better vanilla beans than these beans. This vanilla comes directly from the islands of Comoros which is famous for its lush and fertile volcanic soil. While many consumers may often think bourbon vanilla only comes from Madagascar, Comoros has long been regarded as a superior quality bourbon vanilla.

Comoros is one of the most unique and fertile vanilla growing regions of the world

How many vanilla beans are in a pound

Grown on a small single estate, this family farm has been growing vanilla for three generations. Slofoodgroup is proud  to partner with this family and share Comoran vanilla beans with the world and to our customers. Similar to vanilla from Madagascar, bourbon vanilla is from the species of vanilla planifolia.

Vanilla planifolia is a oblong leafed orchid that produces vanilla pods high in vanillin content. Once cured the beans and a lustrous black to brown in color. The price is traditionally higher than other planifolia varieties due to its overall rarity and quality.  Many Europeans regard Comoros vanilla beans as superior to Madagascar vanilla beans.  The volcanic soils of Comoros are some of the finest vanilla growing topography in the world.

How did vanilla beans get to comoros?

The Aztecs are said to have introduced vanilla to Comoros. Comoros is the worlds 9th largest export and most vanilla is spoken for long before it is even harvest. The beans are in high demand and once you try for yourself, we are sure you will see why.

Facts about these vanilla beans

Amount of vanilla beans per pound

There are roughly 160-170 +/- vanilla beans per pound of average. This is equal to about 10-11 vanilla beans per ounce on average. This is based solely on vanilla beans from Comoros that are an average length of 15-16 centimeters (5.9 inches to 6.29 inches). The amount of vanilla beans per ounce may differ depending on the type of vanilla beans, origin of vanilla, and grade of vanilla beans. Vanilla beans are an agricultural commodity that is sold by weight. The shape, size, and weight of each vanilla bean does vary. Vanilla is not grown in an industrial farm setting and therefore natural variances do occur. No claim or guarantee is made to the exact amount of vanilla beans per ounce nor is the count of vanilla beans a determination of value.

Lovely beans

I was so pleased with the quality of these beans! They were plump and oily with plenty of seeds and they smell wonderful! Every bean in the lot was nice, no dry beans at all. Just beautiful.
