There are certainly times when you might want to choose platinum leaf over the flake-form. But it should be noted that platinum comes at a price even more expensive than gold and for many applications, using just a small amount of platinum flakes will achieve that contrast you desire at a more affordable price. Much like edible gold and silver, edible platinum is extremely delicate. You do NOT want to expose it to moisture or oils. DO NOT try to apply it with your hands. Instead, use a clean soft-bristled brush, wooden application tool, or anti-static tweezers.  

How to tell the difference between platinum and silver

While both silver and platinum may appear similar in color, it is actually quite easy to tell the difference. Platinum is brighter and shiner while silver has a much darker and grayer hues.
