Buy Whole Ground Vanilla Beans from Tahiti
Real Tahitian vanilla bean flavor that is easy to use and does not sacrifice on quality. Our vanilla from Tahiti has been freeze dried and ground to preserve as much pure vanilla flavor as possible. Made from top quality vanilla beans that are grown and harvested in Tahiti and ground onsite in our US based facility, Slofoodgroup's Tahitian vanilla bean powder is perfect for ice cream, gelato, custards, chocolates and more.
To make our whole ground Tahitian vanilla we freeze the vanilla pods in small batches and grind to a fine powder at the very last minute so no flavor is lost before reaching you. We do this to ensure exceptional quality vanilla flavor that helps elevate your favorite recipes saving you the time and the hassle of scraping vanilla pods.
How is freeze dried vanilla bean powder made?
About our pure ground vanilla powder from Tahiti
The freeze drying of vanilla beans is done through a process knowns as lyophilisation or cryodesiccation in which vanilla beans are chopped into small pieces and frozen to temperatures below zero. Once subzero temperature is achieved, the pressure in the chamber is lowered and the ice is removed by the process of sublimation. This is the same exact process as how our açaí powder is made. Freeze drying is considered superior to traditional methods of drying. The process only removes the moisture of the vanilla beans and does not damage or remove any of the flavor. The result is pure ground vanilla beans that are rich, flavorful and aromatic. Freeze dried vanilla bean powder is just as good or better than using fresh vanilla pods at home.

Frequently Asked Questions
- No. This is pure, whole ground vanilla bean rather than a spray-dried, water-soluble powder, so it does not dissolve. It disperses as fine granular specks throughout a recipe rather than blending in completely, a sign of purity rather than a defect.
- It's made from top-quality vanilla beans grown and harvested in Tahiti, then ground on-site at our US-based facility in small batches to preserve as much flavor as possible before reaching you.
- Tahitian vanilla has a fruity, floral, and rich aroma with a complex flavor profile, distinct from the classic sweet, creamy flavor of Madagascar vanilla powder or the bold, rich flavor of Ugandan vanilla powder, both Bourbon-type (Vanilla planifolia).
- It's excellent in ice cream, cakes, chocolate, pies, and jams, or sprinkled directly on top of fresh fruit. Because it's a fine powder, it saves the time and hassle of scraping whole vanilla pods. For more ideas, see our vanilla recipes and articles.
- Store in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. Properly stored, it has a shelf life of 24-36 months.
- Yes. We also carry Tahitensis-type vanilla powder from Ecuador and, when in stock, from Papua New Guinea, if you'd like to compare flavor profiles across origins.
