Cinnamon, Apple, and Walnut Oatmeal
A great way to start your morning!
Perfect for the colder months, or even on a summer morning, oatmeal can be enjoyed regularly for breakfast. It is a healthy way to start your day with whole grains and your favorite flavors. If you are not a fan of oatmeal, I encourage you to give this cinnamon apple and walnut oatmeal recipe a try. Heating up chopped apples with sugar brings out this irresistible sweetness and aroma of fresh-from-the-orchard goodness. Once completed, add the apple compote to oatmeal, mixing in some maple syrup, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. I can almost guarantee this will become your new favorite breakfast. Top the creation with chopped walnuts for extra nutrients and enjoy a healthy and filling breakfast that will keep you satisfied through lunch!
Cinnamon and Apple Oatmeal with Walnuts & Vanilla
Makes one serving
Ingredients

1 cup of water

½ cup of oats
-
½ apple, chopped
-
1 tbsp. sugar
-
½ tbsp. maple syrup
-
1 tsp cinnamon (freshly ground quills or powder)
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
optional – handful of chopped walnuts
Procedure

Bring a pot of water to boil. Add oats, we prefer rolled oats or muesli but any oats will do, bring to a simmer, and cook covered for 3-5 minutes. You can also pop it in the microwave. Follow directions on packaging for best results.

In a separate pot, simmer chopped apples and sugar until the apples are soft and tender. Apples should be just starting to caramelize, be careful to not burn them.

Add apple mixture to the oatmeal, and fold in the remaining ingredients, do not over-mix.

Optionally, sprinkle chopped walnuts or other nuts on top as desired.
